And so the time comes for this years Shizuoka Hobby Show. The main star of this year’s show is the MG RX-78-2 ver. 3.0. Like many, I was a bit underwhelmed by it (not another RX-78??!). Basically, it’s a RG RX-78 scaled up to MG size. Admittedly, it does look better than the ver.2.0 but I won’t be rushing to buy it when it gets released this August. Unfortunately, some weapons & decals will be sold separately in the Premium Bandai website.

Another potentially interesting kit is the MG Geara Doga. The inner frame looks to be very detailed & extensive, but with the armor on, it looks as plain as the HGUC version. A least you get the option to stick an LED in its monoeye.

The only kit that screamed “Buy me!!!”  was the RG GP-01. Both the ground type and the space type will be released together. Personally I prefer the ground type without all the thrusters & balancers. It looks more sleek & sexy. On the HG side, some upcoming releases include the Astray Gold frame, Zogok, Dooben Wolf, Gerbera Tetra, another Base Jabber variant & the Messala.

Another attraction that got my interest was Bandai’s version of the 1/72 VF-1A/S Valkyrie. It’s fully transformable like the earlier VF-25 kits from Macross Frontier.

Overall, I was quite underwhelmed by Bandai’s offering for this year’s hobby show. With the exception of the RG GP-01, nothing really stood out for me. But anyway, I hope you forgive the lazy writing & hope you enjoyed the pics.
